On Thursday, the police seized brown sugar worth Rs 3.90 lakh from two persons at Virar in Palghar district. According to the police, they arrested the duo after acting on a tip-off.
"Acting on a tip-off that some people were coming near a hotel in Manvelpada in Virar, the local police laid a trap. Around 10.30 pm, when two suspicious persons were spotted near the place, the police nabbed them," senior inspector Pramod Badakh of Crime Unit-III of Virar police said.
"During the police search, 17 grams of brown sugar valued at Rs 3.90 lakh were recovered," the police official said.
Following the recovery of the drug, the police arrested the duo of Amir Jakar Khan (35) and Haresh Manoj Patil (29).

The arrest has been made under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Meanwhile, in another incident in Maharashtra, four students belonging to a left-wing outfit were injured after a brawl broke out during a protest held by the BJP at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) here against "objectionable" graffiti on Prime Minister Narendra Modi found painted inside a hostel of the university, police said.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon near the university's main building, which houses its administrative office, they said.
