Operation reunite: Mumbai Police rescues 487 missing children in 45 days flat

Mumbai Police has rescued 487 children in just 45 days as part of their special drive, 'Operation Reunite', the police said. As per the data shared by the city police, in the ongoing drive, between August 15 and September 30, the police managed to rescue hundreds of children below the age of 18 years.

An official said, "during the drive not only children whose kidnapping or missing complaints were registered on record but children whose missing complaints were not found on records were rescued as part of operation reunite."

The police said, in the operation, a total number of 230 boys and 257 girls were rescued between August 15 and September 30. Out of these rescued children, 68 boys and 135 girls were those whose missing records were present. As many as 154 boys and 122 girls whose missing records were not present but were rescued. Efforts were also made to reunite these children with their families and many were also reunited with their parents.

In the past days, the Mumbai Police have also rescued children as young as two-month-old and a one-year-old in two separate cases of kidnapping.

A one-year-old girl who had been kidnapped from the city four days ago was rescued and two women were arrested in the matter, the police said. Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar himself reunited the rescued child with her mother on Thursday.

The girl was abducted from Santacruz on October 30. The women were allegedly trying to sell the toddler in Telangana. The girl was rescued from Solapur railway station on Wednesday, the police said.

In a similar incident, last week, a two-month-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped from south Mumbai two days ago was on Thursday reunited with her parents after police nabbed a couple and rescued the infant from the Antop Hill area, the police said.
