A 44-year-old Nigerian individual has been apprehended for the alleged possession of cocaine and mephedrone valued at INR 84.85 million in Navi Mumbai, as reported by the police on Saturday.
The police intercepted the suspect, Julius O Anthony Onyekachukwu, at Ulve around 4 pm on Friday.
"Around 706 gm of mephedrone and 95 gm of cocaine was seized from him," stated the police official.
"The entire illicit substance is estimated to be valued at INR 84.85 million," the police official mentioned.
A case has been filed under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the suspect.
"The NRI police are conducting an investigation to ascertain the source of the drugs and identify the suspect's customers," the official added.
Meanwhile, In a major crackdown, the Andheri's Sakinaka police had seized 151 kg of MD worth Rs 300 crore from a Nashik-based pharmaceutical company and apprehended 12 of the alleged accused.
This crackdown unfolded when Pune's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) disclosed that Lalit Patil, an alleged offender, was operating a drug network from Sassoon Hospital based in Pune.
It is alleged that Lalit Patil, the suspected drug kingpin, and his brother Bhushan are the masterminds behind this illicit operation.
"Bhushan Patil will soon be apprehended and taken into custody. He was not present during the raid. Both are currently evading arrest," stated the police. "The investigation into this matter was initiated on August 8 when Sakinaka police arrested Anvar Sayeed, 42, and confiscated 10 grams of MD," explained Joint CP (Law and order) Satyanarayan Chaudhary.
