An unidentified woman's body was discovered wrapped in a blanket and discarded in a dried-up stream in Uran taluka of Maharashtra's Raigad district, officials said on Friday.
According to an official from the Uran police station, the discovery was made on Thursday morning in Talekhar, PTI reported.
According to the official, a passerby spotted the unidentified woman's body on the Chirner-Kharpada route at 6 am. The body was wrapped in a blanket, while the legs were placed in a plastic bag, the report stated.
Initial reports indicate that the deceased woman was around 35 years old, and foul play is suspected in her death, the PTI report added.

"A passerby found the body on the Chirner-Kharpada road around 6 am. It was found wrapped in a blanket with the legs put in a plastic bag. The deceased could be around 35 years old and she might have been killed," the official said.
Following its discovery, the body was taken to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Authorities then filed a case against unidentified criminals under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, such as 302 (murder) and 201 (causing the disappearance of evidence of wrongdoing), the PTI report added.
Investigations are underway to identify the victim and locate those guilty of the murder.
In another incident, a guy being held in an assault case escaped from police custody while being escorted for a medical check-up in Navi Mumbai, according to a police statement issued on Friday.
The escapee, Ajay Datta Katkari, 25, reportedly bolted while being transported to the Indira Gandhi Rural Hospital in Uran. Katkari was detained for allegedly using hazardous weapons to injure another person, another PTI report stated.
Speaking about the escape, a police station in Uran spokeswoman revealed that Katkari shoved a policeman who was riding with him when they were being taken to the hospital, a PTI report stated.
According to the report, law enforcement organisations are stepping up their search efforts in an attempt to locate and capture the runaway, Katkari, to guarantee his prompt return to police custody.
