Navi Mumbai crime: The Navi Mumbai police in Maharashtra have registered a case against a 25-year-old man for allegedly raping and threatening a woman whom he had befriended through a mobile chat application, an official said on Thursday, reported the PTI.
According to the news agency, the suspect from Beed district in Maharashtra first gained the 23-year-old woman's confidence by chatting with her before proposing to meet her.
The suspect allegedly took the woman, who lives in Panvel, to Nashik and his home in Beed where he allegedly raped her, the police said, according to the PTI.
The woman reportedly claimed that the suspect then forcibly married her, beat her up and later made their intimate photos viral on a social media app, as per the PTI.

The alleged crimes were committed between June and August of this year, the official said, the PTI reported.
The Navi Mumbai police on Wednesday registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections, including 376 (rape) and 504 (criminal intimidation).
Since the alleged incident had taken place in Beed, the case has been transferred to Peth police station there, he added.
Meanwhile, the Navi Mumbai Police in Maharashtra have registered a case against 10 men on charges of sexual harassment of women and rioting during a discussion on gram panchayat poll preparations in Navi Mumbai, an official said on Wednesday, the PTI reported.
According to the PTI, four women were injured in the incident which took place on Tuesday at Nhavagaon in Panvel, the official from Nhava Sheva police station said.
The women from the village were holding a discussion on preparations for the gram panchayat elections scheduled on November 5, senior police inspector Sanjeev Dhumal said, the news agency reported.
The accused arrived there and picked up a quarrel with the women. The accused allegedly tore the dress of one of the women, attacked the other victims with iron logs and abused them, the police said, as per the PTI.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered against 10 men under Indian Penal Code Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) , 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 143, 149 (unlawful assembly) and 147 (rioting), they said.
