Navi Mumbai police have arrested a woman for allegedly running a sex work racket from a spa operated by her at a popular mall in the city, a police official said on Thursday. A report in PTI stated that the 40-year-old was operating the racket through the spa in the prominent Vashi mall.
The cops, acting on intel, sent a decoy customer to the spa on Tuesday evening and saw two women, aged around 20, working at the outlet were being forced into sex work, Navi Mumbai anti-human trafficking cell's senior police inspector Prithviraj Ghorpade told PTI.
He further told the news agency that they arrested the woman who was allegedly pushing them into the sex work racket. He further mentioned that the two rescued women have since been sent to a shelter.
According to the officer's statement to PTI, they have charged the arrested accused under Sections 370 (trafficking of persons )and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

In another recent incident from Navi Mumbai, two persons were arrested after the cops busted a sex racket and rescued a minor Bangladeshi girl. According to the police statement to the news agency PTI, the sex racket was caught in the Taloja node of the city.
Sub Inspector Suresh Kurhade of the Taloja police station told PTI that based on intel, which was verified by a dummy customer, they raided a flat in a residential community in Taloja. He said there they arrested two men and rescued the 14-year-old girl.
"Two people, Samon Shaikh and Mohinoor Mandal, were arrested, and a 14-year-old girl from Bangladesh was rescued. A case has been filed under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act," the official told PTI.
Similarly, Mumbai Police discovered a sex racket run by a former Bollywood actor and her domestic help; the two were apprehended by Bangur Nagar police from the actor's home in Goregaon.
The former actor Kanika Goldar, aged 62, was running a high-profile sex racket from her apartment in a Goregaon housing society with her cook Naresh Kumar Dangi. A mid-day report cited the officials saying that they conducted a raid and held Goldar in the middle of negotiation with a decoy customer.
Reportedly, the cops began an undercover probe after receiving a tip off about Goldar's unlawful operations.
