A bike without a number plate that was stopped during a police nakabandi in Worli, Mumbai led to the arrest of a wanted burglar against whom multiple cases were registered in Maharashtra and Gujarat, the police said on Saturday.
According to the police, on February 9, a nakabandi was being carried out at Jijamata Nagar in Worli by the police when a man on a 'suspicious' bike that had no number plate, was stopped. He was not even wearing a helmet. When he was asked to stop, he allegedly attempted to flee from the spot. However, a team of police officials nabbed him.
The police said, he was initially questioned about the bike but he did not give satisfactory answers and hence he was detained and taken to Worli Police Station for further questioning.
The police said, a team of officials began questioning him, while another team of police officials began to check the bike he was riding. In the process, the police recovered Rs 7.46 lakh cash and gold ornaments collectively worth Rs 50.34 lakh from him.

"Further investigations revealed that there were multiple cases registered against him in different police stations," an official said.
He had been allegedly involved in burglaries in Maharashtra and Gujarat, the police said.

The investigations also revealed that the suspect, a native of Surat, used to avoid keeping any document with him to evade his identity being established, the police said.
He was later identified as Aftab Khan alias Mohsin Sayed alias Shaikh.
The police said that he had stolen cash and gold ornaments from Bharuch and Baroda. He is found to be involved in various cases of theft and house-breaking in Maharashtra too.
The police have registered a case against him at Worli Police Station and are further investigating the matter.
