Two persons, including a Nigerian man, were held allegedly with 160 grams of mephedrone worth Rs 32 lakh, a Mumbai Police official said on Thursday, reported the PTI.

Feroz Sayyed (50) was held with a small quantity of the contraband from the eastern express highway in Mulund east by the Azad Maidan unit of the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) on Monday evening, he said, as per the PTI.

"His questioning led to a raid on the residence of Nigerian national Joseph C alias Aloma (39) and a stock of mephedrone was found. From the two, we recovered 160 grams of mephedrone worth Rs 32 lakh," he said, the news agency reported on Thursday.

"We also found Aloma has been living in India illegally after his passport expired in 2021. He had come to the country on a tourist visa in 2019. Sayyed and Aloma have been charged under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act," he said.

Aloma has also been booked under the Foreigners Act for alleged illegal stay in the country, the official added, as per the PTI.

Meanwhile, the Palghar police on Monday arrested a Nigerian woman and seized narcotics worth lakhs from her. Tulinj police held Kehinde Bolaji Bello, a 66-year-old Nigerian woman, in Palghar district, for possessing drugs worth almost Rs 6.4 lakh. On Monday, police raided Bello's home in Pragati Nagar, Mira-Bhayander on the outskirts of Mumbai, based on information they received, stated a report in PTI.

According to the report, during the operation, the Tulinj police uncovered and seized 56.2 grammes of MD and 7.5 grammes of cocaine from Bello. These unlawful chemicals, valued at about Rs 6.4 lakh, prompted the filing of a complaint under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Chemicals Act. Senior Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar of the Tulinj Police Station confirmed the occurrence.

In an another incident at the Mumbai airport, gold valued at more than Rs 2 crore was taken by agents from the Mumbai Zonal Unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). They detained two passengers at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport who were arriving from Jeddah. When the passengers were searched based on a particular intelligence, 1 kg of gold dust in the wax that had been sewn into their undergarments was discovered.
