The Sakinaka police on Friday arrested two foreign nationals for allegedly smuggling cocaine worth Rs 9 crore into the country and trying to sell it in the illegal drug market in Mumbai. According to the Sakinaka police, the first arrest was made on Friday night, when a patrolling unit spotted the accused during a routine round.
"The accused spotted our personnel and tried to hail an autorickshaw to flee, but was intercepted before he could do so. A search of his person revealed 88 capsules containing cocaine, worth Rs 9 crore, in his bag. Subsequent inquiries confirmed that the drug was meant for illegal distribution in different parts of the city," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Datta Nalawade, Zone X.
The accused, identified as Daniel Naymek, a native of Nigeria, was placed under arrest and, in his questioning, allegedly identified his supplier as Joel Ramos, a Venezuelan national. "Ramos was arrested from the Dream Residency Hotel in Sakinaka. On being questioned, he confessed that he had arrived from Ethiopia after having swallowed the capsules. After reaching Mumbai, he vomited them out and then handed them over to Naymek," said a Crime Branch officer.
