Two constables were stabbed during an operation to catch a dreaded criminal at Kanjurmarg on Sunday night. Both constables were stabbed on their backs and had to be rushed to hospital as they were bleeding profusely. The police have managed to arrest one person in the attack while four or five other accused fled the spot.
On Sunday night, the Kanjurmarg police got reliable information that Shiva Shetty, a criminal with cases of murder and assault, was coming to Karve Nagar with a couple of his associates. A team, led by an inspector and six constables, rushed to the spot and laid the trap.
Around 11 pm, the police spotted Shetty, and constable Satish Dhavle leaped forward and nabbed him from the back. Another constable Sanjay Chakor also caught hold of Shetty. But two-three of Shiva's associates attacked the two cops and tried to free him. During the scuffle, one of the criminals stabbed Dhavale and Chakor.
"Dhavale has been stabbed in the upper back while Chakor has been stabbed on the lower back but held on to Mohan Shetty, Shiva's brother," said an officer from Kanjurmarg police station.
