Father went out to play cricket while his brother was asleep in next room at the time of the incident; police are probing further

Police found that a few years ago an assault case was registered against the deceased Mayank Gala and his brother Jatin.

A 24-year-old share trader allegedly died by suicide after he shot himself in the head using a county-made revolver, at Jawahar Nagar, Khar East on Monday morning. Police suspect that the deceased took the extreme step after he suffered losses in the share market.

The Nirmal Nagar police have registered an Accidental Death Report and are probing further.

According to the police, the incident took place on Monday at 8.30 am when Gala's father Jayesh had gone out to play cricket with his friends, while his elder brother Jatin was asleep. Gala called his father and asked him to come home as he wanted to tell him something important.

Senior inspector Shashikant Bhandare said, "Gala had called his father and asked him to come home urgently. In the meantime, Gala shot himself with a country-made revolver. His brother, who was sleeping in the next room, heard a loud noise and ran towards Gala's room. He found his brother on the floor, lying in a pool of blood. He rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead before admission."

One of the Mayank close family friends said, "Mayank was regularly trading in the share market for the past few years. For the past one month, he was behaving differently and suffered from depression. We met him a few days ago to check on him, but he did not tell us anything. After the incident, over 1,000 people had gathered outside his building. Police had to disperse them."

"Gala's father worked as a tailor and was a share trader for the past many years. We are checking his bank and trading account. We seized his mobile phone and are checking his call record data," Bhandare said. As per police sources, the brothers often argued over property-related issues. Police will also record his statement to find out his involvement.

Police found that a few years back an assault case was registered against the deceased and his brother. "A few years ago the deceased and his brother were involved in a fight with a group. We had registered an assault case and had arrested them."

"After the post-mortem, we will hand over the Gala's body to his family for final rites. Further probe is on," Bhandare added.
