After consulting with the senior police officials it was decided that the FIR be registered on the complaint of a woman police constable who was with the police patrolling team that spotted the girl. Since both the accused are close relatives of the victim, her other relatives could pressurise her so that the duo could be saved. They could also destroy the evidence as a reason the police registered the case, said officials.
Soon after the offence was registered, the Worli police arrested the two they were produced before the court on Friday which remanded them to police custody. They have been booked on the charges pertaining to rape and under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence act (POCSO).
