The Sewri Police in Mumbai registered a case of murder against a yet to be identified suspect after recovery of an unidentified 'face smashed' dead body of woman on January 22, the police said.
According to the police sources, the matter had come to light on January 22 when an unidentified woman's body had been found in the bushes near Bhaucha Dhakka.
"The alleged accused had deliberately smashed the face of the deceased woman so that her identity could not be found. The police have registered an FIR against an unknown person. Efforts are being made to identify the woman," said a police officer.
Earlier, The police were informed about the body in the bushes near Bhaucha Dhakka on Monday by a caller. "The body was not stuffed in a bag or a gunny bag, it was left in the open. It has decomposed completely. Some jewellery has been recovered from the body. We are investigating the matter," a police officer had earlier said.

A police officer had earlier said that there are no CCTV cameras in the nearby area. The officials were scanning all missing person reports to make headway in the case and the police officials are optimistic about getting some clues.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Latkar had said that eight teams are probing the case.
