A Mumbai ragpicker was arrested for allegedly killing a 70-year-old woman to loot about Rs 3,000 that she had saved up in Mumbai's Kandivali area on Wednesday, an official said, reported news agency PTI.
Accused Mansoor Sheikh (51) and victim Anusaya Sawant lived on a pavement near Hindustan Naka at Charkop in the western suburb, reported PTI.
The Mumbai ragpicker had recently learnt that Sawant had saved up some money. He decided to kill her and flee with the money.
In the early hours of Wednesday, the Mumbai ragpicker fatally attacked the elderly woman with a stone and ran away with her cash, which was about Rs 3,000, the official said, reported PTI.

After being alerted about the crime, the police launched a probe and arrested Sheikh. He has been booked for murder, the official added, reported PTI.
In another case, the Navi Mumbai police have registered a murder case against a 27-year-old man in connection with the discovery of a body from the water tank of a dilapidated building recently, an official said, reported PTI.
Uran resident Sayarali Jalil Sheikh was booked on Wednesday under IPC section 302 on the complaint of the brother of victim Imdadul Pachu Sheikh (35), he said, reported PTI.
Citing the FIR, the official said that a friend of the accused had sought refuge at the victim's place for a brief respite. Sayarali was apparently furious when Imadul asked his friend to leave his room, reported PTI.
Between December 16 and December 21 last year, Sayarali allegedly fatally attacked Imadul and hid the body in an empty water tank of a dilapidated building at Chirle near Uran, reported PTI.
The police initially registered an accidental death report, but upgraded it to a murder investigation following the autopsy report and a complaint by Imadul's brother, the official said, reported PTI.
Meanwhile, a partially decomposed body of an unidentified man was found on a beach in Gorai here on Tuesday, police said, reported PTI.
The body was spotted by a passerby at Kudven beach in Gorai in the morning, an official said, reported PTI.
The man appears to be in his 40s, and while nothing was recovered from his clothes, he was wearing a smartwatch, which might help ascertain his identity, he said.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, and an accidental death report has been registered, the official said, reported PTI.
