The Shivaji Nagar police in Mumbai have successfully cracked the murder case of a 24-year-old man and arrested two people in connection with the case, the police said on Wednesday.
The victim, auto-rickshaw driver, was kidnapped and his dead body was later allegedly dumped in Kamothe area of Navi Mumbai, after being transported around for two days, the officials said.
The police managed to solve the murder case nearly two months after its execution but are still actively searching for the victim's body, sources said.
According to the police, four suspects were involved in the case and the main accused was held around two weeks ago for the murder of an another person. This earlier case involved throwing the deceased's body into the Mithi River in Kurla. The police have made two fresh arrests in connection with the case.

The deceased, identified as Kabir, alias Papa Karimulla Idrishi, was a 24-year-old auto-rickshaw driver. The Shivaji Nagar police registered a case under sections 120(B), 201, 302, 364, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The accused individuals include Nafees alias Kakki Sharafat Khan, Shakir Shaikh, Imran Ahmed alias Shabbir Ahmed Khan, and Atik Arif Memon, the police said.
On January 21, the police recorded the statement of Jahir Khan, a witness who claimed that Kakki had contacted him on December 18. Allegedly, Kakki assaulted Jahir and demanded information about his wife's whereabouts, threatening him with a fate similar to what happened to Papa. Further investigation revealed that Papa, the victim, was driving Kakki's rented auto-rickshaw.
Afreen, Papa's wife, was questioned by the police regarding her husband's location. She informed them that they were married in June 2019, and her husband, facing financial difficulties, was driving Kakki Bhai's auto-rickshaw while staying in a rented room. Papa had taken a loan of Rs 70,000 and was paying Rs 1500 daily. When she went to Dharavi to file a missing complaint, she left without providing her husband's picture, as he often stayed out for work.
Upon further interrogation, Shakir Shaikh, one of the accused, alleged that Kakki had offered a reward of Rs 5,000 and a treat with chicken to anyone who found Papa. With Atik's help, Papa was located in Dharavi in November. Kakki, along with Shakir, then killed Papa and disposed of the body near Kamothe, according to the police.
Hemraj Rajput, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 6, stated, "We have arrested two people and are in search of two others. Further investigation is ongoing."
