A 48-year-old man was arrested for buying over 20 vehicles, including seven cars, using forged loam documents, an official of the Mumbai Police told PTI on Friday. According to the official, the investigation was initiated when the non-banking finance company (NBFC) initiated a search for the loan applicant due to a halt in the equated monthly installments (EMIs) related to a two-wheeler loan.
Reportedly, the NBFC's analysis of the submitted documents revealed they were forged and thus a case was filed at the Marine Drive police station. The suspect was arrested through an examination of the agreement of the sale he provided which featured his photograph and personal information.
Further probe uncovered that the individual had acquired a total of 23 vehicles, including seven cars, with an estimated cumulative value of Rs 89.02 lakh using fictitious identities, stated the report. Additionally, it was discovered that he had altered the components of some of the vehicles, as well as their registration numbers.
Meanwhile, in another case in Thane district, gutka and banned tobacco products worth Rs 9,96 lakh were smuggled in consignments marked as clothes. The matter came to light when a godown owner in Bhiwandi received a suspicious consignment from a transporter and he alerted local police, stated a report by the agency PTI.

The cops have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Food Security and Standards Act, FDA regulations, Food Safety & Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations and Food Safety & Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulations Act, he said, reported PTI.
Previously, police in Navi Mumbai township confiscated prohibited gutka and tobacco products valued at Rs 7.39 lakhs, following a raid conducted in an Airoli apartment around 1 am. An official from the Rabale police station reported the arrest of one individual in connection with the operation. Subsequent to the raid, law enforcement authorities confiscated gutka and tobacco products from various brands.
