A man was arrested for allegedly threatening and trying to extort Rs 25 lakh from a local Shiv Sena functionary in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Friday.
The Washind police on Thursday arrested Vaibhav Satpute of Shahapur for allegedly issuing threats to Dattatraya Thackeray and booked him under section 387 (extortion) of the IPC, an official said.
According to the complaint, the accused had come to the complainant's house on April 12, handed him an envelope, in which he claimed to be from a terror group and demanded a sum of Rs 25 lakh.
The accused also allegedly asked the victim to hand over the cash at Agahi Road on Friday and threatened to kill his son if he failed to pay up, the official said.
