The accused, Kamlesh Solanki
Consumed by doubt over his wife's fidelity, a 32-year-old Chembur resident stabbed his 12-year-old daughter multiple times with a sharp weapon on Wednesday night. Even as the child gets treated at Sion hospital, the man's wife is terrified that he will return to kill their daughter.
Accused Kamlesh Solanki is a resident of Siddharth Nagar, Chembur. According to the police, the incident occurred around 9 pm when Kamlesh, his wife, Mamta, and their daughter were at home. Mamta was asleep and their daughter was feeling hungry. Kamlesh gave her a biscuit and later attacked her with a knife five times. The knife also slashed her hand.
Kamlesh fled from the spot right after the incident and neighbours rushed the girl to a local hospital. Seeing the serious nature of the injuries, the girl was referred to Sion hospital, where she was admitted to the ICU and the police were informed.
Mamta told mid-day, "We married 15 years ago. Kamlesh always doubted my fidelity. He would often beat me up. For the past six years, I have been living with my mother in Mulund. On August 15, my daughter was missing her father, so we came to visit him on August 19. I was asleep when Kamlesh attacked our daughter. The incident woke me up and I saw Kamlesh flee with the knife. I think he will attack us again."
The 12-year-old girl said, "I love my father but after this incident, I will not go in front of him. Now I am scared."
A doctor treating the girl told mid-day, "The injuries will heal soon but she is depressed right now and needs counselling."
A police officer from Tilak Nagar police station, where an attempt to murder case has been registered, said, "Kamlesh is absconding and we are looking for him. Prima facie, we have found that he is a drug addict. We suspect that he committed the crime under the influence of drugs."
