A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 33-year-old woman on the pretext of marriage after they became friends while playing the PUBG game and later started working together at an event management company in Mumbai

A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 33-year-old woman on the pretext of marriage after they became friends while playing the PUBG game and later started working together at an event management company in Mumbai, police said on Tuesday.

The accused and the woman met online at the end of 2020 and later she joined the event management firm.

"The accused established physical relations with the woman after promising marriage. As per the complainant, the man raped her multiple times at various hotels till January 2023 and also shot videos of the act," the official said.

He threatened the woman that he would release the video clips on social media if she refused to maintain physical relations.

"As he refused to marry her, the woman approached the police following which an FIR was registered under sections 376 (Punishment for rape), 376 (n) (2) (physical relations on promise to marry), and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal code," the official added.

Further investigation is underway.

In another incident, police has arrested a 60-year-old self-styled godman in Maharashtra's Thane district for allegedly raping a woman under the pretext of ridding her of evil spirits and sufferings, an official said on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old woman from Bhayander area here had approached the man following which he took advantage of her situation and allegedly raped her on various occasions from 2016 under the pretext of helping her, the official from Bhayander police station said.

Meanwhile, the Navi Mumbai police have seized drugs worth Rs 18.05 lakh in two raids and arrested three persons including two Nigerian nationals in this connection, officials said on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of police laid a trap near Kharghar railway station and nabbed the two Nigerians, aged 32 and 34.

A total of 44 gm of methaqualone worth Rs 4.40 lakh was seized from their possession, the police said in a release. (Agencies)
