The couple used to sell weed brownies through their Instagram page
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Saturday night raided a Malad (West) bakery and arrested a young couple for allegedly selling brownies and cakes mixed with edible marijuana. The supplier was also arrested.
"This is a new trend among youngsters of consuming marijuana cakes," said Sameer Wankhede, joint director, NCB. He said the couple started the business during the lockdown and sold the cakes via an Instagram page. The police said the couple procured the marijuana from an alleged drug supplier in the western suburbs. According to the NCB, primary investigation revealed that the couple got the idea from a web series and then learnt to bake cakes using marijuana.
To dodge law enforcement agencies, they took orders through their Instagram page and customers transferred money to their bank account or G-pay account. "We have seized 830 grams of edible marijuana brownie and 160 gm of marijuana in the late Saturday night raid," said Wankhede.

The NCB is now investigating who the supplier procured the edible cannabis from. The police have confiscated from the couple's house a diary with names of customers, who they said will be questioned.
"One may not be able to distinguish between regular baked goods and those containing cannabinoids, which tend to have a slightly green tinge and often emit a faint cannabis smell," the officer added.
