In a major crackdown on the city's drug racket, the Dongri police on Sunday seized huge quantities of Mephedrone (MD) worth R12.50 crore from the residence of Santacruz-based Deepak Bangera.
This has been one of the biggest seizures of the Mumbai Police since the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) started investigating the drug racket post actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death.
According to the Dongri police, two men Isaq Sayyad and Abdul Azim Sheikh were arrested last Friday. The cops had recovered 68 gm of MD from the duo. "After their arrest we got a tip off regarding Bangera. We raided his residence in Santacruz on Sunday morning and recovered 25 kg of Mephedrone worth R12.50 crore," said Shabana Sheikh, senior PI, Dongri.
During the raid, the cops also found Rs 5 lakh cash and two weighing machines. The police suspect that the accused were working for some bigger drug cartel manufacturing MD and supplying it through peddlers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
