Mumbai Crime: Wrong turn by motorist costs cop’s son his life

A motorist who took a wrong turn in the Fort area on Sunday night caused the death of a 23-year-old biker. The deceased, son of a police officer, was riding home on his bike at the time. The Azad Maidan police have arrested a 28-year-old teacher and have released him on bail.

The incident occurred between 5.30 pm and 6 pm on May 1, in front of Kandeel Restaurant in Fort. Police said a motorist was trying to take a right turn even though it was prohibited. As it was taking the turn, a biker crashed into the car and fell down.

The motorist immediately took the biker to GT Hospital, where he was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit but succumbed to his injuries at 11 pm. The cops arrived at the hospital and took the driver, Moulik Kirit Modi, a resident of Kandivli, into custody. The deceased has been identified as Nikhil Abasaheb Suryavanshi, 23, a resident of Colaba. "We arrested the accused and he has secured bail," said a police officer.
