Mumbai Crime: Two arrested for possessing narcotics worth Rs 76 lakh

The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested two people on April 27 in connection with a drug case. A 28-year-old man, identified as Aabid Shaikh from South Mumbai, was held after he was found in possession of the synthetic drug, Mephedrone (MD), which he had concealed inside the music system of his house. After Shaikh's arrest, another accused, Rohit Soni (21), a resident of Sewri, was also arrested. The drugs seized were worth Rs 76,20,000.

"Shaikh was under the scanner of ANC for the past few months. He is part of a gang operating in South Mumbai from Cuff Parade to Dharavi and is suspected to have been supplying synthetic drugs in huge quantities," an ANC officer told mid-day.

With Shaikh's arrest, the ANC team has got the link to another accused Rohit Soni (21), a resident of Sewri. "Both of them have been operating under one gang and have supplied drugs to consumers in south Mumbai area," Datta Nalwade, DCP Anti Narcotics Cell, said.

During the search at Soni's house on April 27, the ANC also recovered 18 grams of MD. "We have recovered 508 grams of MD from the duo worth Rs 76,20,000. We are searching for the main accused in the case who has been operating in the South Mumbai area." Nalwade added.
