A man, who was convicted in Shakti Mills gang-rape case in 2013, was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch for allegedly stabbing a man in Bandra on February 28.
Akash Jadhav alias Gotya (25) assaulted Rizwan Qureshi (28), a resident of Nargis Dutt slum area in Bandra. "Akash along with an accomplice attacked Rizwan with a knife, causing grievous injuries on the victim's head and hands. Rizwan is undergoing treatment at Sion Hospital," said Nandkumar Gopale, senior police inspector, Mumbai Crime Branch.
A case was registered at Bandra police station under Sections 326 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Mumbai Crime Branch was also doing a parallel investigation. "We received information that the accused is history-sheeter and is involved in multiple serious offences. He was arrested," said Akbar Pathan, DCP Detection (1).
The Crime Branch also arrested other accused Ankit Naik. "We learnt that Akash was planning to form his own gang called Gotya gang," Pathan added.

The duo was handed over to Bandra police for further investigation.
This is the 9th case registered against Akash since he was released from the juvenile centre in 2017. Multiple cases, including murder, attempt to murder rioting and assault, have been registered against him in different police stations across Mumbai.
He was convicted in Shakti Mills gang-rape case in 2013, along with his accomplice Ankit Naik.
