Mumbai Crime: Police constable held for supplying drugs To Arthur Road jail inmates

In a shocking development, a police constable stationed at Mumbai's Arthur Road jail is arrested by NM Joshi Police for supplying drugs inside the prison.

The accused constable identified as Vivek Naik, is arrested with 71 grams of Charas (a form of cannabis) within the premises of Arthur Road Jail. A senior officer of the Mumbai Police has confirmed the development that NM Joshi Police Station has registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act in connection with this incident.

Naik was produced before the court and remanded to five days of police custody for further investigation.

According to sources, Naik was apprehended at a checking gate where he had concealed the charas capsules among his undergarments. Approximately five capsules were recovered from him. It is alleged that when Naik was about to leave the main gate, another police constable stationed there suspected him and attempted to flee. However, he was apprehended by another police constable and subsequently, a case was registered at the N.M. Joshi Police Station.

Sources also indicate that the accused Naik had been supplying drugs to an inmate in the Arthur Road Jail's egg cell.

Now, questions are arising regarding whether there was a larger drug trafficking operation within the Arthur Road Jail, facilitated through the involvement of police authorities posted at the facility.

According to police, the accused constable has also disclosed that he was taking the drugs to the accused named Rashid who is locked up inside circle number 2 of Arthur Road jail, and the same was procured from one Rahul.

"We are investigating the entire syndicate to find out the facilitators of the drugs and who are the jail inmates who have received drugs from the constable," said an officer
