A 40-year-old fisherman from Panvel on Saturday killed his wife as she quarantined him in the balcony of their flat for 5 days rather than taking him to doctor after contracting COVID-19 infection.
The man identified as Santosh Patil was living with his wife and 11 year old son. Panvel city cops have booked the accused and sent him to quarantine centre for treatment.
According to complaint filed by Ram Patil, a Panvel based builder, he received a call on Saturday morning from the building he had a flat in. He was told that cries and screams were being heard from the flat he had rented out. Ram Patil rushed to Sai Satyam Building in Karanjade.
On reaching, he found 11-year-old Mayur, son of his tenant Santosh Patil standing at the door and crying but there was no noise coming from the flat. "When I asked Mayur why he is crying, he told me his father Santosh and mother Sandhya (35) had fight," Patil said.

Meanwhile, Govind Gupta, one of the residents told Ram Patil that they heard noises and shouting from the flat hence they called him and police. When police arrived, they knocked and asked Santosh to open the door. He opened the door and was shocked to see the police. His hands and legs were smeared with blood. There was blood on the floor of the hall too.
"When we asked him (Santosh) what happened, he told he was unwell for last 5 days, and this wife told him not to leave balcony of the flat as he is showing COVID like symptoms. After living in the balcony for 5 days, Santosh stepped in the hall which resulted in an altercation between him and his wife Sandhya," told an officer from Panvel City police station.
The altercation escalated and angry Santosh attacked his wife with sickle. Cops rushed injured Sandhya to hospital but she was declared dead on arrival. "We took Santosh to hospital where he is tested COVID positive. We have booked him for murder under IPC section 302. And sent him in quarantine," told Ajaykumar Landge, senior inspector of Panvel City police station.
