Mumbai Police on Tuesday arrested an 80-year-old man for attempting to slit his own brother's throat with a blade.

The incident came to fore when Kalpana Mehta (60) approached Pydhonie police station to file a complaint against her brother-in-law.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Kalpana and her husband, Arvind Mehta (72), were residing in a room in Pydhuni area. The dispute arose as Jamandas Mehta objected to the couple staying at the place since the property is under the ownership of their mother.

On January 21, after having dinner Mehta went to sleep. Jamandas allegedly woke up, approached Arvind with a blade, and threatened him, questioning their right to reside in the house. A violent altercation ensued, leading Jamandas to attempt to slit Arvind's throat. Kalpana woke up by Mehta's cries for help, and intervened, resulting in injuries to her hand.

Jamandas was arrested under Section 307 for attempt to murder and has been placed in police custody for five days.

A police officer said, "The wife is doing well, but the husband is still in the hospital. Further investigation is underway."

Meanwhile, on Monday Sewri police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) after the body of an unidentified woman was found in the bushes near Bhaucha Dhakka.

"An unidentified body of a woman was found lying in the Tik Tok bushes on Tik Tok Road. We suspect that the body is six to seven days old. The body has been sent to KEM hospital for a post-mortem. We are making efforts to identify the body," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Port Zone) Sanjay Latkar.

The police were informed about the body in the bushes near Bhaucha Dhakka on Monday by a caller. "The body was not stuffed in a bag or a gunny bag, it was left in the open. The police are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death. "There are no CCTV cameras in the nearby area.
