The Kurar police have arrested a minor girl's boyfriend and her mother on the charge of forcing the girl to abandon her newborn baby.
Sources said the police were alerted about the body of a premature baby dumped close to a community toilet at Dudhnath Dubey Chawl in Malad East on July 19. They formed three teams with women cops to crack the case. The police began searching for women who were pregnant.
"We found two families in the locality which were suspects. One comprised a mother-daughter duo who had not been to their rented house in a few months," said a police officer from Kurar police station. The cops tracked the two to Nalasopara and detained them. They learnt that the 16-year-old girl was pregnant and she had abandoned her premature baby near the public toilet in Malad.
"The girl said she was in a relationship with a man in his early 20s. In her sixth month of pregnancy, they tried to abort it and she delivered a stillborn baby. The girl's mother knew everything. After dumping the body, they fled from Malad," said the officer. The police have arrested the mother and the girl's boyfriend under section 321 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC. The boyfriend also faces charges for rape and offences under POCSO.
