Mahim Police has arrested a man for blackmailing his girlfriend. The 30-year-old had been asking for money and jewellery, and claimed he would make their private pictures public if she didn't comply. The man had already taken 120 gm of gold, worth Rs 58.11 lakh, from the woman. When the victim complained about this to the police, a case was registered, and the boyfriend was arrested.
According to the police, on Friday, a 24-year old woman came to the police station and complained that a person named Abdul Sufiyan Shaikh, 30, was blackmailing her. The victim told the police that she had befriended Shaikh at a gym and later, they fell in love. The couple got physically involved, and had taken intimate pictures of each other.
After taking the pictures, Shaikh started demanding money from the victim and threatened to make her pictures public if the money was not given. In her statement, the victim said that Shaikh is not returning the jewellery he has taken forcibly from her.
When the police arrested Shaikh from Mahim, he confessed to the crime. During the investigation, the police found that Shaikh was already married, and admitted that he was pretending to be in love with the woman.

DCP (zone 5) Pranay Ashok told mid-day that on the complaint of the victim, the police has arrested the accused and had registered a case under sections 376(2) (rape) and 384 (extortion) of IPC. DCP Pranay Ashok told mid-day, "The accused has been arrested and presented in the court. He has been remanded to police custody till August 5."
