The Marine Drive police have arrested a 28-year-old man who allegedly made indecent gestures and showed his middle finger to a woman who was out for a night drive with her husband and other family members.
The accused has been identified as Hrishikesh Nandkumar Mhatre, who is a resident of Noor Bag area of Dongri, said a police officer. The victim and her family members first approached the DB Marg police but later the matter was transferred to the Marine Drive police. The incident took place post 9.30 pm on March 12 on the north-bound NS Road at Marine Drive.
In her complaint, the victim said, "Around 10:15 pm, we were heading towards Girgaum Chowpatty from NCPA in the car. I was seated next to my husband, who was driving the car. The children and other family members were on the back seat. The moment we reached the traffic signal in front of Marine Plaza hotel, a motorcyclist took a U-turn from the south-bound road. My husband turned left and drove towards Girgaum Chowpatty."
"Soon after, the motorcyclist started to follow us and later he showed his middle finger to me. Looking at his indecent gesture, my husband stopped the car on one side and asked him why he did it. But the motorcyclist started to argue with him," she added.

Her husband told mid-day that two men were travelling on the motorcycle. "The moment I got off the car to speak to the accused, he started arguing with me. Then I spotted a cop whom I called for help, but seeing this the accused sped away. However, we caught hold of the other man who was riding pillion with him."
"We took him to the nearby police chowky, where the accused was asked to come. Finally, he reached after 30 minutes and was then taken to the Marine Drive police station where a case was registered against him," he added.
An officer from the Marine Drive police station confirmed the incident and said, "We arrested the accused and later the court granted him bail."
Mhatre has been booked under section 354A (i)(iii) (physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures, or, showing pornography against the will of a woman). The accused told mid-day, "It happened in a fit of rage but I made the gesture at the driver not the woman."
