The DB Marg police on Sunday arrested three heavily drunk youth who were creating nuisance near Shreeji Plaza, Opera House in Girgaum. The police said they were drinking alcohol in a public place and talking amongst themselves loudly, thus creating a nuisance for local residents and passers-by. An advocate Dharmendra Mishra who noticed all of this and called up the police control room at 10 pm and beat marshals from DB Marg police station immediately reached the spot. "There were four youth who were all in an inebriated state. When the officer asked them to report to the police station, two of them caught the neck of constable Daware and cornered him. Another two thrashed constable Chavan," said police.
Constable Daware managed to break free, get a hold of his walkie-talkie and alert his team for additional backup at Girgaum.
Sources said there was a large gathering of people but none came to rescue the cops. Mishra recorded a video of the whole incident on his cellphone and handed it over to the cops as evidence.
