The Kandivli police have arrested a domestic help for withdrawing Rs 17 lakh by changing the ATM pin and registered mobile number of his employer linked to the bank account. The accused learned this from the social media site YouTube.
The accused, identified as Nilesh Patari 20, is a resident of Raigad, who had come to Mumbai in January and was looking for a job. He reached Mahavir Nagar where he met a domestic help who offered him a job to help at the house of a senior citizen who was staying alone.
After working for three days, he found the woman's ATM card in her cupboard. He stole the card and with the help of YouTube learned how to change the ATM pin and registered mobile number at the ATM centre as he had all the details of his employer.
Patari withdrew Rs 17 lakh from various ATM centres in Mumbai. When the elderly woman's daughter checked her account, she found that it was showing zero balance. The woman then approached the police and registered a complaint.

"On February 24, we learned that Patari is withdrawing money from an ATM centre in Dahisar. The police reached the spot and arrested Patari as he left the ATM centre," said PSI Suryakant Pawar. "We have arrested Patari and recovered the entire amount. During the investigation, it was revealed that he credited the entire money to his account. Patari told the police that he was planning to open a food stall with the money," added Pawar.
