A chain-snatcher, who has over 30 cases registered against him, was arrested by Dindoshi police on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Sanjay Sukam, used to target women going to work in the morning. One of his associates, however, is still absconding, said a police officer.
According to the police, a 30-year-old woman was going to work at 5 am on Monday when the accused, riding on a two-wheeler, approached her along with his associate and robbed her of a gold chain worth Rs 50,000 at knife-point. Their faces were covered with handkerchiefs.
The victim, a Goregaon (East) resident, works at Seepz Andheri east and was walking towards the bus stop when the incident occurred. She then approached Dindoshi police and filed a complaint. The cops then rushed to the spot and analysed the CCTV footage. "We suspected it to be Sukam as he had been previously involved in snatching and robbery cases," said a police officer from Dindoshi police station.
Police tracked Sukam's parents, who reside in the city, and through them they obtained his phone number. On checking his phone location, it was found out that he was at the spot when the crime happened. "We caught Sukam within 12 hours of the complaint filed. He confessed his crime during interrogation," added the officer.
