Mumbai Crime: Ahmedabad businessman found dead in Dahisar; cops register murder case

A 38-year-old businessman was found dead on Sunday in a flat that he had rented at Dahisar. After incurring heavy losses in medicine business in Ahmedabad, the deceased, Manish Patel, had come to Mumbai to try his luck.

The Dahisar police had initially registered an accidental death case but after they received the post mortem report, the case was converted into that of murder.

According to the police, Patel, who dealt in Ayurvedic medicine, was found lying on his stomach on the floor covered in blood. The police said that on Sunday they received a call from a resident of Patel's building that he was not responding to knocks on his door and neither was he replying to text messages.

On reaching the spot, the police found Patel's body. He was wearing only a pair of shorts and there were cigarette butts strewn around the room, an officer said.
There was an injury mark on his neck, and the post-mortem report revealed that he had been attacked. "We have registered a murder case," the officer added. There was no forced entry into the house. The cupboard was intact, and it appears that the attacker was an acquaintance of the deceased.

From Patel's mobile call records, it was found that he was in constant touch with four to five people, including the hotel staff where he was initially staying and those who had given him the flat on rent, the officer said.

A relative of Patel said he was very fond of gold jewellery and used to wear 15 to 16 tolas on his body, and also had 4 to 5 gold biscuits. All the gold is missing and the cops only found some cash in the apartment.

CCTVs of the society where the crime was committed were found to be out of order. "We are conducting an investigation," said senior inspector Pravin Patil from Dahisar police station.
