Nine people were arrested on Sunday for allegedly looting a labour contractor of Rs 12 crore, by posing as police officers in Hotel Bawa International at Nehur Road, Vile Parle (East).

The victim Anand Ashok Ingle, 29, is a professional labour contractor and a resident of Rajnigandha society at BARC colony, Sion. Police sources said Ingle wanted to convert this black money into white and planned to meet two people at the hotel for the same on Wednesday evening.

During the meeting, three people posing as police officers barged into the hotel room.

"The fake police officers asked to hand over the money to them or they will be arrested. The accused also asked Ingle to come to Vile Parle police station. When the victim went there, he realized he was cheated. We checked the CCTV footage of the hotel, verified the incident and registered a complaint on Friday," said a police officer.

Investigation revealed that the two people who had come from other states to meet Ingle also planned to rob him

"Two different gangs tried to dupe Ingle. One is the fake police gang and another was the duo who called the victim at the hotel," added the police officer.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Manjunath Singe of zone 8 said, "With the help of CCTV cameras we arrested all the accused. Considerable amount has been recovered. We registered the case under relevant sections of the IPC. Further investigation is on."
