Mumbai crime: 32-year-old man held at Lower Parel station for flashing, doing obscene gestures at woman

A 32-year-old man was arrested from Lower Parel station on Monday for flashing his private parts and doing obscene gestures at a woman.

The accused, identified as Shamshad Mumtaz Ansari, is a resident of Kurla's Indira Nagar.

As per Mumbai Central Government Railway Police (GRP), the victim travels daily from Lower Parel to Churchgate via local train and the man had been flashing at her for the last 8 to 10 days. On Monday, around 9.33am, the woman came to the station with her brother when the accused committed the same act. The woman's brother then confronted Ansari who pushed him and tried to escape, said a GRP official. The victim and her brother managed to catch the accused and handed him over to Railway Police at the station.

Ansari was later brought to Mumbai Central GRP police station and arrested

After this, the police stationed on the platform brought the accused Ansari to the Mumbai Central GRP police station and arrested the accused Shamshad Mumtaz Ansari on the complaint of the woman's brother. Ansari is a resident of Indira Nagar in Kurla.

Kedari Pawar, Senior Police Inspector, Mumbai Central GRP, told mid-day, "The accused in this case was arrested under Sections 354(a)(d) and 509 of the IPC and produced before the court where he was sent to judicial custody."
