A 30-year-old was severely injured after he was hit by a vehicle in Chembur on Thursday, around midnight. The injured Gaurav Narote, resident of Subhash Nagar, Chembur, had gone to meet his friends, when he was knocked down by a speeding SUV. Narote was rushed to the hospital. The Chembur Police have succeeded in tracing the last four digits of the SUV, and are confident of nabbing the driver soon.
On October 26, Narote, a driver by profession, took his sister Nikita's scooty at around 9.45 pm to meet his friends. Around 1 am, Nikita received a call from an officer from Chembur police station who told her that her brother had met with an accident. "As soon as I received the call, my parents and I rushed to Zen Hospital where we found out that my brother has been knocked down by a speeding SUV and he was brought to hospital by auto drivers. He sustained severe injuries to his head and legs," said the sister.

The Chembur Police registered an FIR against the unknown driver, under IPC sections 279 (rash driving), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) and relevant sections of Motor Vehicle Act 1988. "The incident occurred near Malhar Hotel," said a police officer. "We have screened CCTV camera footage installed on the route from where the SUV had come. We are confident of nabbing the driver soon," said Jayaprakash Suryavanshi, senior inspector of Chembur police station.
