Shruti Dalvi with her mother
A man landed at the house of a 21-year-old woman with two sharp-edged weapons, allegedly injured her with one, and then consumed poison on Monday in Vasai East. The Valiv police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) of Indian Penal Code on the statement of the woman, Shruti Dalvi. She also told the police in her statement that she is married to the accused, Jeetendra Thakare, 24.

While Dalvi has been admitted to a hospital with a minor injury, Thakare has been admitted to another hospital. The police will take further action after recording his statement.
An uncle of Dalvi told mid-day that Thakare reached her building when her parents were away at work. "He ranged the doorbell twice, but when she opened the door - protected by a safety door, he would hide. So she called her neighbour to ask if anyone was outside her flat. When the neighbour told her that no one was around, my niece opened the safety door. In no time Thakare, who had hid on the terrace, arrived and stabbed her in her stomach," he said.

After she was attacked, Dalvi screamed and neighbours rushed to her help. They called her mother. She also managed to call her mother who rushed home to Vasai East. "Thakare also wounded Dalvi's mother with the weapon and consumed some liquid," he added.
Local residents had already informed the police and a team from Valiv police station reached the spot and took the three to hospital. The police said Thakare has consumed a poisonous liquid.
âAccused is recuperating'
"The girl is admitted to a private hospital. In her statement, she has told us that she got married to Thakare in Bhiwandi court in January. The statement of Thakare is yet to be registered, as he is recuperating in another hospital," said in-charge of Valiv police station, Inspector Vilas Chougule, who added that the family of Dalvi had registered a non-cognisable offence against Thakare in January.
