The Malvani police on Friday arrested four persons for the alleged gangrape of a 16-year-old girl in a car at Madh Island on May 31.
According to police sources, the girl went missing from her house in Madh Island on May 31 and her mother registered a missing complaint at Malvani police station. As the girl is a minor, the police immediately registered a kidnapping case against unknown persons and began the investigation.
The girl returned home on June 1 and despite being questioned by her parents, she did not reveal anything. The girl's mother informed the police and a police team reached their house. On being questioned by the police, the girl revealed about the incident, said a police officer.
According to the girl's statement to the police, "One of her Instagram friends had invited her to the birthday party of another common Instagram friend near Retreat hotel in Madh Island and she went to attend the party."

"They celebrated the friend's birthday by cutting a cake in a car parked near Retreat Hotel. Three people were present for the party, of which two raped her inside the car," she told the police.

"As it was late in the night, instead of going home, she went to an Instagram friend's house near Malvani Church. Her friend, who stayed alone, took advantage of the situation and raped her. After the incident, she left from there and went to another Instagram friend's home in Madh Island, who also raped her at his house. The girl returned home the next day in the morning and very scared," a police officer said.
Four youths, aged between 18 and 23, have been arrested and during the investigation, it was found out that all are her Instagram friends.
The accused have been booked under various sections of the POCSO Act. They were produced before the court on Saturday and have been remanded to police custody, said another officer.
