Mumbai crime: Mumbai Police on Thursday said that its anti narcotics cell (ANC) of the crime branch nabbed a 38-year-old man and recovered as many as 100 pills of MDMA and ecstacy from him.
According to the police, the Worli unit of the ANC had received a tip off regarding a suspicious person and accordingly the information was worked out by the officials. A team was formed which laid a trap and nabbed the suspect.
An official said, "A trap was laid on September 27 night, and in the presence of two witnesses the suspect was nabbed and checked. When the officials checked the suspect it led to a recovery of as many as 100 blue colour pills suspected to be MDMA and ecstasy pills. The pills were seized by the team of police officials. The total value of the seized pills amounts to around Rs 15.42 lakh."
The police said the suspect was later placed under arrest and had been booked under the NDPS Act on September 28. Further investigations in the matter are being done.

In a major action against drug peddling last month, the Mumbai Police's Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) had seized drugs including MD worth Rs 43 lakh during a special drive in August.
The police had arrested seven persons who were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
"The drive was conducted in Kandivali, Sakinaka and Mazgaon areas from Wednesday to Saturday, and different types of drugs including Codeine Phosphate cough syrup, tablets and mephedrone (MD) besides Rs 3.5 lakh in cash were seized," he said.
"The drive was conducted by Azad Maidan and Ghatkopar units of ANC," the official added.
"Since the beginning of this year, the ANC has arrested 17 people involved in the trafficking of cough syrups and recovered 1,191 kg of contraband. As many as 98 people were arrested in 49 cases where MD worth Rs 22.82 crore was seized," the official said.
Mumbai police have launched a significant crackdown on the city's drug trade, aiming to rid Mumbai of narcotics. The police are actively arresting hard-core criminals involved in drug consumption and distribution. As per the data provided the authorities seized 508 kg of ganja worth Rs 1.89 crore in the past 7 months. Additionally, the police have confiscated 553 kg of drugs valued at Rs 46.28 crore during the same period, an official said.
