Following mid-day's report about a video where history-sheeter Shams Sayyed alias Johnny was seen along with his son, playing with several wads of cash, police sent him a notice on Thursday, demanding an explanation for the source of the money. Johnny has over 10 cases registered against him at various city police stations and is currently out on bail in an attempt to murder case. He had himself uploaded the video on social media.
mid-day had reached out to Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) Vishwas Nangare Patil about the video. Nangare Patil, in turn, asked Additional Commissioner of Police (south region) Satyanarayan Chaudhary to verify its details.
Recently, Johnny had attacked one Taha Dosa near Babula Tank on May 7 with a knife and injured him. A case had been registered against him and three others at JJ Marg Police Station. The sessions court had approved Johnny's anticipatory bail.

"I had asked the police station concerned to seek cancellation of his bail order and a notice has been sent to him seeking to know the source of the cash displayed in the video," Nangare Patil said.
Following Nangare Patil's order, the JJ Marg police appealed to the sessions court to cancel Johnny's anticipatory bail. The matter was scheduled for hearing on Friday when the custody of one of the co-accused also ended. The matter has been posted for hearing on June 9.
A resident of Dongri, Johnny has been charged with chain-snatching, motorcycle theft, rioting and half-murder. He is the son of Sameer Ali Sayyed alias Diggy, who has many cases against him, too. The most recent case against Diggy is of running over five people at Crawford Market in September 2020.
