Sujata Patil, the assistant commissioner of police, has been suspended from service by Mumbai Police. On October 29, the order of suspension was issued by the Maharashtra home department and the order has directed Sujata not to leave Mumbai without the permission of the Mumbai Police Commissioner.
The woman officer was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of 40,000 rupees from the shop owner. Sujata had demanded Rs 1 lakh for registering a complaint and ending trouble for the shop owner. Sujata was sent to police custody and secured bail after two days.
The complainant has a shop at Subhash Nagar, Jogeshwari (East) and had given the shop on rent, but took it back on October 5, 2021. But the lock of the shop was broken by the people who had got the shop on rent. The complainant had rushed to the Jogeshwari police station on October 6 to complain about trespassing and attempt to grab his shop but cops refused to register the complaint.
The complainant then went to meet Sujata Patil, Assistant Police Commissioner (Meghwadi division). Sujata demanded Rs 1 lakh from the complainant to register a complaint and to avoid any trouble in future. The complainant paid Rs 10,000 on the same day and she demanded the rest of the money as soon as possible.

The complainant didn't want to shell out any more money and rushed to the office of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) at Worli on October 7. ACB officials registered the complaint and went for verification. During the verification process, Sujata settled the bribe amount for Rs 40,000 and accepted the amount. And during the act, she was caught red-handed by ACB.
