Mumbai: 26-year-old woman ends life, man held for mental harassment

The Andheri GRP on Sunday arrested a 38-year-old man for mentally harassing a 26-year-old woman. The woman who worked as an admin in the pharmaceutical company allegedly killed herself by jumping in front of the local train in July.

According to the GRP sources, they found the dead body of the deceased woman near the railway track between Santacruz and Ville Parle station near Milan subway. During the inquiry, the police found out that the deceased killed herself by jumping in front of a fast local train.

While the reason behind the suicide was not known, during the search the got deceased's mobile phone. "After checking the chat history, we found out that the accused was threatening to make the deceased personal chats, and objectionable videos and photos viral. Due to this reason, she killed herself," said a police officer.

In August, on the complaint of the deceased parents, the police registered the FIR under section 306 of IPC against an unknown and began the investigation.

Under the supervision of DCP Sandeep Bhajibhakre, police inspector Sachin Gavte API Deepak Bagul began the investigation.

"The mobile number of the accused, who hails from Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district, was switched off. After extracting the CDR, we contacted the most common callers, and then we got the clue of the accused and arrested him from Jaunpur. He was brought to Mumbai on Sunday," added the police officer.

During the investigation, it has been revealed that both the accused and the deceased worked together in the same pharmaceutical company. They never met but contacted each other on the phone during the course of work.

The two became friends and spoke to each other daily through messages. While the accused was married, the talks of the deceased's marriage were going on in her family due to which she stopped speaking to the accused on the phone. Angered by this, the accused was forcing himself on her by threatening to make their messages and her obscene images viral.

"We have seized the mobile phone and a sim card from the accused he was arrested and produced before the court today the court remanded him judicial custody," said another officer.
