It was only on October 9 that the complainant found out that gold ornaments were missing from her cupboard. She searched everywhere in the house, and when she couldn't find the jewellery, she filed a police complaint, an officer said.
The officer said the complainant suspected Sajnani as she was the only outsider to visit her home since September 24.
The Malad police learnt that the accused had been arrested by the Versova police last week for robbing a relative of her in-laws in June.
She was in judicial custody in the Versova case.
On Thursday, the Malad police took custody of Sajnani, who confessed to stealing the jewellery from her cousin as she needed money, said the officer.
The police have recovered several ornaments from her, the officer stated.
