Charkop police on Saturday arrested the 21-year-old rape accused who escaped from custody on July 2 while being taken to a Kandivli-based hospital.
The accused fled with handcuff's on. Police said he cut off the handcuff's at his friend's house and threw them in a nullah at Nalasopara.
The accused Avinash Harishchand Yadav is a resident of Laxmi Nagar Talav area in Charkop Village, Kandivli (West). On June 26, Charkop police arrested him for raping a 16-year-old girl.

On July 1, while he was being taken in a police van to conduct a Covid-19 test at Kandivli based Shatabdi hospital he pushed the police constable and ran way with handcuffs on.
"We checked all CCTV cameras in the area and found that the accused reached Nalasopara by road. We saw that he hid the handcuffs with a cloth. We traced him to his friend's house in Nalasopara. We also found that he was trying to cross over to Gujarat. With the help of Surat police, we nabbed the accused from a private truck on the national highway going towards Surat," said a police officer.
"We are searching the handcuff which he threw in the nullah at Nalasopara. We also took his friend into custody," he added.
