The Palghar district rural police in Maharashtra seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 10.10 lakh from a tempo in Palghar district, an official said on Sunday, reported the PTI.
Based on a tip-off, the police intercepted a tempo at Udhva in Talasari taluka on Saturday evening, inspector Vijay Mutadak of the Talasari police station said.
Following a search, the police team recovered the IMFL and beer worth Rs 10.10 lakh from the vehicle, he said.
A case under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act was registered against the tempo driver, and no one has been arrested, the official said.
Anti-Narcotics Cell of Mumbai Crime Branch seizes drugs worth Rs 1.12 crore in Borivali
The Kandivli unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Crime Branch earlier this week arrested two drug suppliers from the Borivali area of Mumbai, with 'Heroin', reported news agency ANI.
The cost of seized narcotics was worth Rs 1 crore 12 lakhs in the international markets, an official said.
The total seizure was around 280 grams of drugs.
The police registered a case against the accusers under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act).
The suspects arrested in the matter were produced before a court and were remanded in police custody till June 3, reported ANI.
Initially, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Mumbai Crime Branch team got the lead from sources regarding the drug peddling. As soon as the AN officials received information regarding the alleged drug suppliers heading towards Borivali in north Mumbai allegedly to supply the narcotics, they went to the designated spot.
The team of ANC officials later laid a trap and after waiting for a few hours, they identified the two suspicious men standing at the spot. The duo were later and apprehended by the team of officials.
Upon interrogation and investigation, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Mumbai Crime Branch team recovered 280 grams of heroin from the duo.
Reportedly, both the suspects are residents of Uttarakhand and have been living in a rented house in Palghar district of Maharashtra for the last two months, the official said, reported ANI.
