A case has been registered by the police against a 27-year-old man and another individual for allegedly cheating a relative in Maharashtra's Thane district of Rs 16 lakh. The accused, who hails from Kolhapur, had a close relationship with his cousin in Ulhasnagar.
In May, the accused informed his cousin that he was traveling to Dubai and offered to procure gold at a lower price for him. Subsequently, the accused allegedly took Rs 16 lakh from his cousin for this purpose. The accused, accompanied by his mother-in-law, then traveled to Dubai.
Upon the accused's return from Dubai, the victim attempted to inquire about the gold, but the accused provided vague responses and eventually became unreachable. The victim even visited Kolhapur to find the accused but discovered that their former residence was locked and no one knew of their whereabouts.
Finally, the victim lodged a police complaint on Friday. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against the accused and his mother-in-law under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
