Chennai: Customs officials seized gold bars worth Rs 38 lakh from a person at the airport on Monday. According to the officials, the accused is a 22-year-old passenger who smuggled gold weighing 1.1 kg, from Riyadh by the 22-year-old passenger.
The accused had concealed the metal in a blue tooth speaker he had in his baggage, the release said, adding that the person has been arrested.
In another case, a man was arrested by the customs officials for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold bars and a 'mangalsutra' worth Rs 22 lakh at Delhi airport.
The accused was intercepted after his arrival from Dubai via Muscat to Delhi. A detailed personal and baggage search of the passenger resulted in the recovery of two gold bars and a 'mangalsutra' total weighing 760 gram, a statement issued by the customs department said.

The gold worth Rs 21.95 lakh was seized. On further investigation, two more people were arrested from outside the airport who were waiting to take delivery of the gold brought in illegally by the passenger, a senior official said. All three accused have been arrested in the case, he said.

Mumbai: A year and Rs 3.34 crore later, Gokhale Bridge opens up
Almost after a year since repair work started, Andheri's Gokhale Bridge was fully opened to the public on Sunday morning. The work, which started in July last year after the cantilever footpath on the southern end of the bridge collapsed, was carried out at a cost of R3.34 crore.
