A former Shiv Sena (UBT) councillor in Gondia city of Maharashtra was injured after two motorcycle-borne assailants fired at him on Thursday, police said.
The incident took place when the former Shiv Sena (UBT) councillor Lokesh alias Kallu Yadav was standing outside his office near Hemu Kalani chowk in Sindhi Colony area. He was hospitalised after the attack, newswire PTI reported.
"Around 11.15 am, two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at Yadav, in which he suffered a bullet injury on his lower back. He was admitted to a government hospital in Gondia, from where he was referred to a medical facility in Nagpur. His condition is said to be stable," Superintendent of Police Nikhil Pingale said.
After firing at him, the culprits fled from the scene, he said. "We are investigating all angles and the police will soon nab the culprits," the SP said.

Since the term of the general body of the Gondia Municipal Council has ended, it is currently being run by an administrator instead of elected representatives. Yadav and his brother Pankaj are associated with the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray).
In a separate incident in Maharashtra's Thane district, a man received injuries after a person fired at him from a revolver following an altercation between them at an orchestra bar, police said.
The incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday at the bar located in Dombivli area of Maharashtra's Thane district, they said, adding that four persons have been arrested in this connection.
A quarrel took place between the victim and one of the accused over some issue following which the latter fired at him from the gun, an official from Manpada police station told newswire Press Trust of India. The victim suffered injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Within a few hours, the police in Maharashtra's Thane district arrested the assailant and three other persons for their involvement in the incident and booked them under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, senior police inspector Ashok Honmane said.
