Drunk man makes bomb hoax calls to Mumbai Police, held

The Mumbai Police has nabbed a suspect for allegedly making bomb threat calls to its control room, the police said on Friday.

According to the police, the call was made on Thursday, the man was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he made calls and told the police that the blast would take place at a hotel in a Vakola-based five-star hotel. The police conducted a thorough check at the premises of the hotel and later termed the call a hoax.

"It has been learnt that a similar hoax call was made by the suspect previously in which he mentioned a bomb scare at Mumbai University. The BKC police had been investigating the matter. The Vakola police has detained the suspect in the matter," an official said.

Mumbai Police has been getting hoax calls for the past couple of days. On October 18, a caller made a call on the Mumbai Police helpline number 112 and the caller on the other side said that three bomb blasts will take place in the city. The phone call was made at around 10:30 pm on Tuesday. The caller also mentioned the locations where the bombs would explode. He reportedly told the police that the blasts would take place at Infinity Mall in Andheri, PVR in Juhu, and Sahara Hotel at Airport. The police have been further investigating the matter.

"The Mumbai Police has sufficient security measures in place and it is capable of securing its citizens and hence there is no need for citizens to panic about such hoax calls," the official added.
